    Hi Ryan,

We'd love to do this but it is unlikely we will ever be able to do this real time. The issue is that doing a point in poly match is very computationally intensive and the limits of Apex and the Salesforce.com Platform make this very challenging. With that said we can do almost real time. In our latest release we exposed API methods to kick off batch Assignment Plans (http://help.geopointe.com/customer/portal/articles/1924073-assignment-plans), which has similar functionality to what you are looking for. Please send our support team an email and we can see if this might be an option for your use case.

    Hi there,

Geopointe will return up to 45,000 records on the map. It sounds like something might not be working correctly with your searches. Feel free to reach out to support@geopointe.com and someone may be able to help.

We do have this already if you'd like to automate the rule administratively for the whole organization. Our Assignment Plans (http://help.arrowpointe.com/customer/portal/articles/1924073) do exactly this. It allows your Geopointe Admin to setup the system to evaluate specific shapes and populate a field or object with the match(es).

A great use case for this is something like defining Sales Regions. Your team would setup a bunch of shapes to represent those areas. You'd then setup an Assignment Plan telling it to populate a Sales Region field on your Leads/Accounts/etc and then specify the Shapes to evaluate. The system will run in the background and make those matches.

What we do not have is the ability for a sales rep to add records to these items on their own manually. Our actions framework would help enable you to build something like this on your own, but a good amount of the work would be on you to build the data model and such. We are happy to help you think through details. Log a case at http://help.arrowpointe.com/customer/portal/emails/new if you want to dig into this.

We will look into this. We understand what you are saying and how that can be convenient, but also want to balance the control an admin vs a user has.

What we'd likely do to solve this is uncouple all of the things being a Geopointe Admin allows and turn them into separate permissions that can be uniquely assigned. This would allow you to delegate folder rights to more people without giving them full Geopointe Admin rights.

We'll look into this, but there are a couple viable workarounds for you that accomplish the same thing. At any time, you can either...

    1) Right Click on the map and choose the search option to search from that new spot

    OR

    2) Use the address search to find a new location and that then becomes the new center point.

If you are in Salesforce1, holding your finger on the map will add a pin to that location and make that the new center for a mobile search.

Great idea and we agree. The reason it does not work today is that our app runs in Visualforce on the force.com domain and browsers do not allow a page on salesforce.com (like the Log a Call page) to be displayed in the popup.

We are working on an alternative solution for this.

    Great idea.

We are very close to this in the new release we are rolling out today. Users can use Google Places for this kind of searching. It's still a keyword search rather than a multi-field search like one would get in data.com or zoominfo, but is still a good way to tap into non-Salesforce data.

It's available on AppExchange today for you to get and we'll push it to everyone else this weekend.

We don't have exactly this yet, but one thing we are adding in the new release is the new One Box Search will include any mapped records. So you don't need to scroll down to find a record on the map. You can use the search. However, you still don't see a list of names at the map level.

Chris, can you provide the Field Type of the field you are filtering on, an example of the value it contains, and the value you are entering into the filter.

Can you confirm this works as expected in a salesforce report or view?

    Thanks.

We totally understand the need and it does make logical sense. As you said, it is complex at the same time.

For your specific example, have you considered mapping Opportunities directly instead of Accounts? You could do that today and achieve similar results. You mentioned wanting a record for each Opportunity and that would happen now if you mapped Opportunities. If you only wanted 1 record per Account, this functionality would need to be added as you describe.

Hi Kelly, while we do love the idea, we are pretty set on having Salesforce be the database rather than holding onto customer data elsewhere.

It's understood how this can be cumbersome as an admin because it requires you to create a custom object, manage importing and dealing with questions from users. But as a general rule, we want to keep customer data in the hands/ownership of our customers so we are pretty set on needing the data to be in Salesforce. At least with Geopointe. It is possible a net-new product offering develops that accommodates this more ad-hoc need.

I left it open to solicit more feedback from people and see what the community thinks.

Now that I look at it, maybe that's a confusing status. The reason we have the status is to try and solicit more input from other customers/users and draw attention to it. Trying to get a feel for overall demand.

Hey Joseph, is this a custom apex action? If so, inside the geopointe.ActionRequest object we pass to your execute method contains a map of URL parameters. In here you should be able to pull out the id value. This will be id of the record the Map button was selected from.

You are using the urlParameters map? This will pass the id of the record that was selected with the Map button. Feel free to open a case here and we can dig into the details. http://support.arrowpointe.com/log-a-case/

The Publisher Actions (similar to a button from the normal UI) are a bit limited, but we have discovered an approach that will remove the limitations. We’d love to provide a Map action from a record in Salesforce1 and bring the user to that location in the map page. We fully plan to do it. This is in Planned status for now while we do some prototyping.

We can't override the map button that is included in Salesforce1. I encourage you to vote for this idea: https://success.salesforce.com/ideaView?id=08730000000l8VYAAY .

There are some other options. You can create a custom publisher action that points to our geopointe__map page or you can create a HYPERLINK formula field that loads the map page and passes in the record Id to the the url, ?id=recordId.

    Hi Matt,
Is there a reason why you would not store those business addresses in a Salesforce object like Accounts? My Locations is really designed to just be a user specific, ad-hoc set of locations that would not be shared with the whole organization. For larger lists of shared locations, we recommend storing that data in a more appropriate location in the Salesforce database. Then you would use the the data sets feature in Geopointe to create shared lists for all your users. Happy to discuss in further detail if you still have questions. We do allow for the choice on a record-by-record basis. What we cannot allow yet is you changing it at runtime.

One way to implement the choice record by record is to implement formula fields. You'd have one editable field on your record called "Preferred Address" and it'd say "Billing" or Shipping". Then you'd have a formula field for each address component (street, city, state, zip, country) and output the billing or shipping address field based upon the Preferred Address selection.

Then Geopointe's Map Object would be setup to look at the formula fields.

This is a tricky one. Not so much due to functionality, but due to the licensing of maps with vendors like Google and MapQuest. We would love to deliver this, but it's currently not on our 3 release roadmap (taking us into the Summer of 2014). We will be looking to deliver this, but need to figure out the licensing we will have to deal with from the mapping vendors and make that workable before we can deliver it. Keep on us about it, though.

Thanks for the idea. Unfortunately, Google Maps requires that their servers have access to the KML files for them to render it on the map. They must pull the file into their data center, process it and then send it through to your client machine. We cannot get around that.

We could look to a way to let you "upload" your files via Geopointe, but would rather not be responsible for housing customer data.

A very easy solution is to use the Public folder in Dropbox, which provides a public URL. Of course, putting the file on any web server will also work. You'd then provide Geopointe the URL to that file.
